The Green Backyard is a forward thinking centre for environmental sustainability based on a 2.3 acre former allotment site in central Peterborough. The site is opposite the Peterborough Utd. football ground on London Road and had been empty for over 15 years!

The purpose of The Green Backyard is to provide an exemplar urban green space for the delivery of training and education programmes to people living in Peterborough and the surrounding area. We are creating a beautiful, productive and biodiverse space which will prove that city spaces are about more than concrete and Macdonalds!

The project aims to raise awareness of environmental issues through practical demonstration and community involvement, to create an accessible, safe and inspiring environment and to promote the growth and consumption of healthy, locally grown food for all.

The Green Backyard is operated as a not-for-profit enterprise and we need your support! If you would like to volunteer your time or expertise to help create this green oasis, have an idea for us, or would just like some more information then please get in touch!

The Green Backyard is open to volunteers at these times:

Sunday: 11.00 - 16.00
Wednesday: 11.00 - 16.00

No experience whatsoever necessary, just bring yourselves (preferably dressed in some appropriate outdoor clothes), sturdy shoes and a cup for tea or coffee to go in.

Hi Everyone, Don't forget to come down to the Green Backyard this Saturday for the amazing arts jam that is Overground. There will be over 40 artists creating pieces of work before your very eyes, interactive demonstrations, workshops, a live photoshop demo, live music from DJ's Day Glow Joe, Urb and Zed, a licensed bar courtesy of Charters and last but not least delicious home-grown and home-cooked food straight from the Green Backyard.
