This video has been produced by Burnley Council to highlight their quest to re-open 350 metres of disused rail track and halve travel time between Burnley and Manchester. It currently takes 1 hour and 20 minutes to travel just 21 miles to Manchester by train; re-opening the Todmorden Curve would halve this to 40 minutes.

  • I think that the re-opening of the Todmorden Curve would benefit the East Lancashire economy greatly. If towns like Accrington and Burnley are to regenerate and prosper they need the best possible transport links to the regional capital. Furthermore, the line would be a very scenic one, especially around the market town of Todmorden.

  • About time this was re-opened, its just a shame everything in this country goes along at a snails pace.

  • Delighted that the Todmorden curve is reopening...just hope that a high speed link can be reopened between Rawtenstall and Manchester. What folly it was to let Beeching loose - there are many small and large towns that had their stations closed years ago - in many cases it isn't possible to reopen them despite the fact that many smaller communities have now become dormitories for commuters who are forced onto roads that are congested.

  • Good news. George Osborne has confirmed in his budget speech, that a link will be built between Victoria and Piccadilly stations. No time scale was given. Large scale projects proceed very slowly in the U.K , but I would expect to see direct trains from Todmorden and hopefully East Lancashire to Piccadilly and Mcr Airport by the end of the decade.

  • I have just read an article in the MEN. It claims that transport chiefs are confident that funds will be provided to build a link between Victoria and Piccadily stations. This means that trains running through Todmorden will be able to link not only with these busy stations but Manchester Airport as well. This makes the case for re-opening the Todmorden Curve even stronger.
