The United States is one of the largest polluters in the world, and the U.S. State that produces the most pollution Texas. The state's capital, Austin, has always marched to the beat of its own drum, and its environmental policy is proof of this. For example, Austin offers large tax breaks to citizens who install home solar panels, bringing the total cost of conversion down to 6,000 dollars. Full solar conversion can run upwards of 20,000 dollars per house without tax breaks, so the city is offering a huge incentive to go solar. Considering how much sun Austin gets in a year, conversions pay for themselves in energy savings quickly, which has encouraged many Austinites to take the city up on the tax break. Austin has also started an active campaign of marketing, lobbying, and promoting plug in hybrid vehicles to government agencies and potential customers. Additionally, Austin has taken steps to cut down on carbon emissions in public buildings, with an aggressive plan to achieve zero emissions by 2020. It's further proof why you shouldn't mess with Texas. I'm Elizabeth Chambers. Check back here for more eco friendly news and tips, right here on LivingGreenChannel.Com.

Solar panels does not make Austin a "green city." Consequently, I don't know the requirements to being a so-called green city. Austin is a driving city, meaning that residence rely upon automobiles as their principle form of transportation. This is a problem.

I just hate how they say texas is the biggest polluter when you can fit 3 to 4 normal states inside of it so how does that equal out. go blame your problems elsewhere, douche.

At the same time the feds are cutting social security to our retired people, they are shoving 10million$ to Austin to cover 6% interest on loans, that Austin Energy tells you are "0% loan programs". They conveniently don't mention that 10million was borrowed from china, and is going straight to a bank profit, and we will have to pay back much more than 10million for it. It has nothing to do with people being "green". Our govt.s are liars! WE PAY THAT INTEREST, WE PAY FOR THAT 10MILLION. WHY?

Hello stupid people. I am here to remind you that when you recieve a "tax credit" or "rebate", that money CAME FROM YOU!!! When you get 500$ from the feds, they charge you 800+$ for it. Austin Energy takes over 10% of your money, so when you think you are getting a heck of a deal and AE gives you a 500$ rebate, they take 550+$ from you to do it...... GET IT YET PEOPLE? "stimulus" is short for "forcing your citizens into debt to gain even more control over them" COMMUNISM.

They are being done for around 100$, and that money goes 100% straight to the contractor. If you want to bitch about a stupid Austin BS "green" program, research their HPwES program. They take 550$ from AE customers, give less than 500$ back. All the while telling you which upgrades they will approve, which contractors they will approve, which price they will approve. They are RIPPING their customers off, to increase their own employment, and help with the "green" lies used to fuel program

"Green" Austin is a joke. Where is the fight against the racetrack that is being built? The mayor and the senator of the district are on board to bring a racetrack that will be the home to Formula 1, Moto GP, drag racing, and racing schools. This thing will be pumping out emissions 250 days a year, while promoting a "Speed City" mentality. Please help to expose this hypocrisy, livinggreenchannel. The city is only green when there is money to be made, but that's about it.Search "Formula 1 Austin"
