It was an unusual cold afternoon today. I started playing around with my instruments and finally found a nice "excuse" to record my Hapi Drum.
The other instruments are a Meinl Doumbek, a Toy Glockenspiel and a Jen SX1000 analog synthesizer.

  • Thinking about buying one of those "hapi"drums, and therefore got some questions :P

    1. How much sound does the drum generate?

    2. How hard is it to play?

Would highly appreciate an answer =)

Very nice song and recording btw ^^

  • @swhamster with the mallets it sounds stronger but the timbre is totally different played with hands. If you are going to play with someone else it's better to put a mic on it.

In the video I used a common SM57 on the bottom and a Rode NT5 to catch hands sound and higher harmonics.

It's very easy to play once you learn the tongues pattern, but you can play without knowing the notes by ear. With a standard pentatonic scale it is hard to hit a "bad" sounding note.
