A long, long time ago in one of the last great age's on planet earth, a great battle took place between the forces of (inner) light and (inner darkness). The Ramayana tells the story of how Lord Rama and his army crossed an ocean on a bridge of floating stones to defeat Ravena, the Demon King, who had abducted Rama's Wife, Sita, in order to appease his obsession for worldly wealth and power. The word 'ravenous'in the English language means greed. When greed rules human thought and action rather than love, Dharma disintegrates and society spirals into chaos. Dharma is in decay because human beings have failed to uphold the qualities of righteousness; morality, decency, honesty and other qualities like compassion, kindness, co-operation and preservation. When Dharma is threatened Lord Vishnu, the preserver and restorer of truth, appears in a physical form to defeat the enemies of Dharma and restore the virtues of Love and Truth as being the highest of all human ideals.

There is a lot of Nay saying about hinduism here today (esp in the comments), but a fact that there were only aryans at that time without the interference from any other religions, unlike today...is more easy to understand the variations in the acts of people from the same belief. ANd easily falling into the category of definable good and bad. While today things are more abt religious faith, there seems evidence abt existence of science in a big way, back then.Pls consider that also.
