Hard hitting journalism it aint- The Kids Are All White was the very first segment my pal (and your host) David Manheim and I produced for Shuffle. Back in '99 we were asked to assemble together a music video show and somehow convinced the guys at Burly Bear Network (google it if you care) to give us a music magazine show instead. We had zero experience producing TV- I was a 26 year old editor and Dave was a production assistant before this, so you could probably say this segment is terrible or incredible and I think youd be right either way. I had been pondering "indie rock" all through the 90's- the music I was listening to was sometimes referred to by that title, and though no one seemed to understand it or care for the term, it finally stuck by the end of the decade. I wanted to see what others made of it, the term, the scene, its significance. So thats what we set out to do... it aint perfect- but it is pure 90's DIY, lo-fi, cant really play our instruments, indie journalism at its finest. Indie rock has changed but I have not, help me and my friends literally make indie rock history- check out indierockdoc.com and support your unsung heroes...
