Hawaiian Hula Song, a classic.

A seductive beauty does the hula while a duo play on guitar and slide.

During the last third of the song, the rhythm picks up, becoming swingy.

Where Hawaiian traditional and American Jazz meet, practically western swing.

  • @helasmile Get over it. It's an old time movie. They are NEVER correct. Im surprised your not complaining about the music being played by Haole's too.

  • this is so disrespectful to our family unreal how people think they can just move their hips and hands and think its hula

  • The beginning credits are missing and I was wondering if anyone knows if this might be a soundie film for the coin operated soundie jukebox machines that gave me sound and picture?

  • You have to imagine, this was done pretty quickly on a sound stage, probably in line with a dozen other shorties that were being filmed that day...I don't think they were going for authenticity, I think they were going for "Get that check and put her in a grass skirt and tell her to dance". I can just see the director yelling "more hands! more hands!" LOL. Still a cute clip and a decent song from the era.

  • I know it's not genuine, but, it's entertaining.

  • Why do people think they can just "copy" or "do any type of hula-ish" dance and call it hula? This is crap, even the tune is off key and this is a part of the "western mystic" of what Hawaii was. THATs NOT HULA! It doesnt even touch the "Hawaii Calls" program. Its a woman with a meandering hand who's dancing gibberish! This is just as bad as Al Jolson protraying black performers....its fake and "their" idea of what they think of us.

  • This is so corny. Certainly NOT Barney Isaacs ! The 'hula gal' is supposed to 'tell the story with her hands' ... I have no idea what her story could possibly be ! I suspect the whole thing was done in the U.K.

  • this is not Hawaiian. And the haole girl is sure as heck ain;t doing anything close to the hula. It is fake. for haole consumption only.

  • Is we seeing this like Ish loading and like.

  • IS THAT STEPHEN COLBERT?
