Lots of British war films were designed to inform or inspire. This one was designed to make the Nazi state a laughing stock.

Put out by Movietone News in 1941, the film uses edited footage from German propaganda films, including Leni Riefenstahl's infamous Triumph of the Will. This clip shows Hitler and his marching soldiers of the Reich, synchronised to the tune of The Lambeth Walk, a popular song from the 1937 musical Me and My Girl.

The National Archives World War 2 site is packed with hundreds of original documents, films, photographs and sound recordings and charts the progress of the war across the planet. Take a fresh look at the biggest conflict in history at:

  • Film was really hard to edit in the '40s, wasn't it? Either way, this is very impressive.

  • I guess hitler didn't count with this clip of him lol
