Whether its streaming content from your computer, amazing HD movies and television packages, or new On-Demand services the big players like Amazon, Netflix, Apple, Microsoft, and Blockbusters are all engaged in a battle for your eyeballs.
Amazon has a new Video-on-Demand service, which will stream movie and TV titles directly to Internet-connected Sony Bravia TVs and other devices. Netflix streams its titles to Roku, Tivo, Xbox and others. Sony has launched a video service for the PS3, and Blockbuster has a new streaming plan and will also introduce in-store kiosks for portable media player movie downloads. Even AppleTV, which pipes iTunes content to your TV, appears to be gaining new life and is selling units.
Still, televisions with Internet functionality built right in may be the buzz kill. They could eliminate the set-top box altogether by offering access to web video directly or using the new tru2way or DLNA technology to deliver interactive TV functionality.
As always, theres never a dull moment in our digital landscape. Anyone want to place a bet on whos going to win this battle?
