This is an introduction to my book, PLAY SKILLFULLY, a book which provides guitarists with one of the most thorough maps of the fret board yet to be printed. Obviously, the book is the lesson - not the YouTube video.

A systematic approach which provides 12 fingerings of the major, harmonic minor, and melodic minor scales, as well as the modes and arpeggios nested within them.

I'm very honored that Jamey Aebersold selected my book to be included in his catalog. You can get the book from Jamey Aebersold's site....

or from Amazon...

One of the most comprehensive works ever undertaken to teach the two octave fingerings of the modes and arpeggios nested within the MAJOR, HARMONIC MINOR, and MELODIC MINOR scales. These fingering patterns provide a comprehensive roadmap of the fret board which will give the guitarist unlimited options for improvisation and guitar arranging. As each guitarist learns differently, the material is presented in standard notation, tablature, and block diagrams to accommodate various learning styles. Used alongside the building of repertoire, transcription and composition of solos, and improvisation studies, this material in this book will give the guitarist the ability to see the fretboard as a endless array of possibilities for musical expression. 4 books in one, Volumes 1, 2, & 3 as well as the contents of Zamar Guitar. 374 pages.

In the video, I'm playing a Gibson Custom Shop Wes Montgomery L-5 through a 1980s Roland JC-55 amp.

Thanks - and happy picking,

David

  • Thank you for posting this. Most guitar teachers these days only want to make money so you learn slower. The info that you put out really helps your creativity. Ive never learned this fast. :D

  • Hey man I really like your videos. massive kudos on your videos. really helpful. particularly the all the things you are video. with SO many chord charts out there it's great to be shown some tasty voicings. Just a quick question though regarding this video, where you play two consecutive notes with the same first finger like when you play the D or A major for example. would you actually do that when you play or would use 1st finger then 2nd?
