I actually heard Bonnie Raitt's version first (which you can tell from the production has James' signature all over it) and then found my way to the version on "Flag" - those two are my favorites...
This is the original version of the song. From "James Taylor and the Original Flying Machine." A few years later it was re-recorded for Apple Records, the Beatles label. Paul liked JT and gave him a break. This copy sounds like it is from a tape so there is some drag, but this is the original version of the song. Read the Wikipedia story on it. (Use the quotes above.) The guys also thought the recordings of these sessions were only of demo tape quality.
If you mean randallcraig's post I checked it but I'm holding my ground. Maybe it depends on which version you've heard first because, otherwise, I don't get where you're coming from. This one just melts my heart.
Good for you 'rothr', but I prefer the beautiful 1971 solo version he did for the BBC's In Concert series. Check it on Tube -- it's first in the column to your right.
I love this album !!!
