I ponder if lesser geas effects continue if a creature gains 8HD. I proposed this question to Pathfinder lead Designer and stumped him. Hoping my 2cents helps the game evolve what do you think?

actual response
Jason Bulmahn, Game Designer -Hmm. That is not an easy question. Generally, most ongoing effects end if you are no longer a valid target, but this is a very rare circumstance. Generally speaking, I would say that the Geas would end, but I think I would need to do a bit more research before giving a definitive answer. I suspect that this one would come down to GM adjudication.

  • This is indeed a question that seems to be open to GM interpretation. I'm inclined to agree with Webhead123 in this case - he basically summarizes my thoughts on the matter. I don't think the new gained level/HD matters if the spell was cast with successful results when the target was of the appropriate level (7 or less).

  • @xpotions Thanks for your input lady! I'll update as soon as I know what Mr. Bulmahn decides.

  • Good to see you back!

As a GM, I would not break the Lesser Geas if the target's hit dice changed before the spell expired. In my interpretation, the spell is only checking HD to validate the target at the *time of casting*. Once the spell is cast, the target deemed valid and the Will save failed, the spell goes into effect for the duration, regardless of subsequent changes to the target. I wouldn't even permit a second Will save upon gaining the new HD. Cast...save...live with the results.

  • @Webhead123 Thanks buddy it's good to be back! Ha! I love that "Cast... save... live the results" Thanks for your input. Getting mixed opinions on this one.

  • I would give the lvl 8 character the benefit of the doubt and say it breaks it upon leveling. It only affects them while they have 7 HD

  • @eweave20 Thanks for your input! Getting mixed reviews on this one.

  • Subject is under the effect of a mind controlling compulsion... It's feasible that any decisions made or experiences gained under such a haze wouldn't even grant the subject experience points.(problem solved)

  • Hmm, not sure. Wish I had a bit more to say.

  • @blackbarnz It's definitely a tough one yeah.

  • @Bondanalloy Thanks for your input! Getting mixed feed back on this one.

  • @MrSaber152 Thanks for your input man! Valid point! Getting mixed feedback on this one.

  • @YourDungeonMaster Ok so one more vote for ending the compulsion if the target attains 8HD correct? Thanks for your input!
