i agree with goggyli, the piano sounds amazing. if this is the recording that gould made for columbia in 1956, then it's definitely a steinway.
as much as i love glenn gould, beethoven without the affection just isn't really beethoven... :) seems to me gould's somber, non-sentimental interpretation, while elsewhere so refreshing, don't really do this wonderfully dramatic piece justice. schnabel's take, though... transcendental!

I think this rendition comes close to what you feel when reading Thomas Mann's description of the piano sonata 32 in his novel "Dr. Faustus".
I feel happy to live in the same period with Gould.
