The winner for traditional Bluegrass is the Martin HD-D-28-V herring bone vintage model Indian rosewood back and sides and sitka spruce top ! I did not even have to make the 2 hour drive to Pickers Supply down in Fredericksburg VA because Brand the proprietor already told Robbie Ludwick the mandolin player ( Zion mountain boys ) and long time friend that He has the perfect guitar for me ! I'm glad I made the drive though Cause Brother Brand is the best and He also has turned my ear to the best Acoustic guitars made today ! The Collings was sweet , especially it's thick aggressive top end ( Could be the combo of the anaroindack Spruce top meets Mahogany ) - the Martins all were top of the line - like some type of agony/torture trying to decide between the HD-D-28-V and the D-18 vintage the single note runs especially on the 18 had a thick brown warm midrange yet the top end of the D28 on the chords was just what heaven is all about but , I was especially blown away by the McPherson guitars ! They were louder than I expected and more tone friendly and excited in the harmonic brilliance then I would have dared to believe- I will have to get a McPherson in a year or two and although the Martins are not a step down by any means , I mean I bought a Martin HD-28-v and it is just as loud and the tone is just fantastic , perfect for flatpicking ! Martins win for the bluegrass style . Honestly and humbly I think the McPhersons are sonically astounding in a glorious way and are the best of the new acoustic guitar technology/designs being offered today so Brand will have to get me one when I got the cash !!

  • i want a mcpherson so bad, but it seems that it will be forever out of my reach in price range

  • @eatthemoon13 I paid 3k for the Gibson Song Writer and she's got the tones

    But to each their own

  • @dave777blaster Very true i love martin but but only martins in th 2grand and up are worth a shit. Thats when you go buy a guild for allot less money, and save for the martin.. I love Guild and martin the same for those $ and tone factors.

  • Bourgeois

  • well i have not played a mc Pherson but thay have some fantastic comments as for the martin the hd 28 and d28s are just first class,i have a lower grade martin but its a martin at the end of the day when i upgrade it will be the martin,,,thanks for posting the vid

  • Sunrise pickup in the tube with the orange lid @ 1:00 :-) Love my Sunrise...

  • My Gibson Song writer has even tone from E to E

    it's Why I bought it.

I had my mind set on a Martin but could not find one that could match the Gibson in the price range. Not to knock down Martins but they just do not hold a candle to the Songwriter Deluxe in my opinion

I prefer square shoulder guitars preferably with rose wood back and sides

  • Yeah. I havent known about Santa Cruz very long, But they build Super guitars. Also a company called Merrill, BY FAR, builds the best new guitar today.
