Dennis Emmanuel Brown was born 1 February 1957 in Kingston, Jamaica.

Often referred to as the Crown Prince of reggae, he was also know as Bob Marley's favourite singer.

He was in his teens when his career began by recording and scoring a big hit with the 1968 cover of "No Man Is An Island" on the Coxsone Dodd label.

Dennis Brown produced more reggae classics than just about any other artist. He recorded with many labels including Taxi, Joe Gibbs, Yvonne (named after his wife) and his own DEB label.

Sadly a long term drug problem led to his untimely death from respiratory failure on 1 July 1999.

Dennis Brown is one of the true greats of reggae music and despite his early death, luckily for us he still lives on through tunes such as this.

  • dont care wot any 1says DEB was and still is the true king of reggae.I

  • If you were a teen in the late 70's/80's, then D.Brown, Sugar Minott, Gregory Isaacs, meant more to us than Bob. I don't remember any sound system in London regularly playing Bob's music. Sometimes in Blues dance people would play it, but the youth wanted steppers/rockers or lovers, and the beat in a lot of BMW's music didn't have the real rub-a-dub feeling anymore. Don't get me wrong, it is still good music. It just was not that popular come party time. D.Brown was for all and any occasion
