Funny thing is, there was a comedy movie made about this issue in 92 starring eddy murphy.."the distinguished gentleman" but no one in america talks about this issue.
Im from the UK and it is common sense here to curtail this funding to improve independence for elected people. I think this is a big reason for the continuing rich / poor divide that exists in America.

I think it's going to take some group writing non-partisan campaign reform, something that will hold up to the supreme court. then having it submitted as a proposition in the states and then the fed. *they* aren't going to do it in congress or the house.. so maybe it's time *we* took care of it for them. the mechanisms already exist.. we just need the language (non-partisan).
