Subaru added a face to its RFS1 robot in an effort to help people feel more at ease with robots. The new RFS1 robot has all the functions of the RFS1 and can operate the elevator and move from floor to floor for cleaning. However, with a face, it also now has the ability to express some emotion. When the robot detects an obstacle, its newly attached face turns yellow and appears as if it's about to cry. Then, when the robot stops in front of the obstacle, its starts to cry to encourage others in the vicinity to move the obstacle.
The RFS robot is well suited for nighttime cleaning while the RFS1 model with a face is well suited for daytime use in areas where people are found such as in office buildings, airports, and hospitals.
