I have written this piece for string quartet as my personal tribute to a young man who has inspired the world over with his kindness, sense of caring and genuine courage. His name was Ben Breedlove.
Ben suffered from a condition known as Hypertrophic Cardiomyopathy, a heart muscle disease which made it difficult for his heart to pump blood.
Ben's all too short a life came to an end on Christmas Day this year at just 18 years of age.
Although I did not know him, I wish I had. Watching his videos here at Youtube and reading about his life has touched me beyond measure, so much so that I wanted to leave for him and his family my own lasting tribute.
Bless you Ben for the inspiration you have been and will continue to be. The world is a better place for you having been a part of it. Rest in peace noble soul!

  • I just came across this beautiful piece of music which you so lovingly dedicated to my son! Thank you so much for honoring Ben with your gift of music. Our family is very touched that you would be so kind. Your music is beautiful and is a gift and a blessing to us. Love, Ben's Family

  • @mananamom Oh my.....I have just shed a tear! I'm so touched and honoured you have taken the time and made the effort to write when your loss must surely still be so keenly felt as it always will be. I am blessed to be able to remember the lives of those I have loved and lost through the living force that is music and in this instance, I am more than blessed to know my music may be of some consolation to you. Love, peace and every prayer, always!

  • @PhillipLWilcher I just read your biography and am stunned to see that you have such a wonderful, long, successful history behind you! I did not realize this the first time I messaged you. We can't thank you enough for your very kind words about Ben. They are a comfort to our souls. We would love to know what made you choose the beautiful title to this song. Please know you have blessed our family beyond measure. With love, Deanne and the rest of the family

  • @TotalRandomness512 Dear Deane : Thank you for the kind words, but my "biography" aside, I simply do what I do and am content for history to place me where it will in music. As Robert Frost said, I have miles to go before I sleep.

The title "Remembered On Waking" comes from a poem by Robert Bridges which I'll offer you here in a second message. I think its more to be noted of the blessing your son has left the world. He has touched the lives of so many to open their own hearts to each other.

  • @TotalRandomness512 "I love all beauteous things, I seek and adore them: God hath no better praise, And man in his hasty days Is honoured for them. I too will something make And joy in the making; Altho' tomorrow it seem Like the empty words of a dream Remembered on waking." (Robert Bridges)
