@tombwomb I am reminded about an "infamous" statement apparently made by Melba - "give 'em muck!" It would seem that even though this was 100 years ago she must have been looking into the future with audiences made up of people like yourself. lol.

@verdinfishy Absolutely. A lovely singer, quite a charming a sweat women, and I rather like her in certain things, but a super star?? Please! 30 yrs. ago this would have been a good Adele or Susanna for NYC Opera, basta.

@TheVaughan5 I couldn't agree with you more.Nowadays these over-rated,over-hyped pseudo-divas are being foisted off on an unsuspecting and unfortunately largely ignorant public as the "greatest of all times." Dare to criticize them & you are vilified.But how do you explain to a generation of opera lovers who never heard the likes of Sutherland,Moffo,Scotto live,in their primes,that their beloved "super stars" would, 40 yrs. ago, have been at best barely adequate utility singers.

@Pathetikos It's very depressing that audiences in places like Vienna, Milan, Venice etc. that used to be discerning are happy to accept almost anything that's on offer these days, no matter how bad it often is. 30 odd years ago this medicore performance would be treated for what it is, today it's cheered - proof how standards are at an all time low.

@Pathetikos Hmm.. that was really flat...It seems that her producers have no mercy to her by pushing her to sing the role after recent giving birth to her child.On your place I wouldn't be so judgmental.Let's say she had a day off.
