  • @Deleaoh How does closed cell spray in foam insulation compare to cellulose? I have read that closed cell foam can double as a moisture barrier and increases sound deadening capabilities. I assume installation of cellulose is a much more cost effective & environmentally friendly alternative to spray in foam but which one has the higher moisture resistance capabilities?

  • @levi2202 water-saturated insulation of any type is bad news. Cellulose is neither more nor less vulnerable to or affected by bulk water incursion than other insulation materials. Hygroscopic materials, such as cellulose insulation, are superior in handling moisture vapor and moisture transported by air exfiltration. Mold does not grow well on cellulose insulation. All widely reported cases of serious mold contamination of insulation have involved materials other than cellulose.

  • One question I have. What about water penetration and mould/mildew resistance?
