Looks like the LED display in this Comet is broken.

Yes it's normal. The EMU have it worse though, they sometimes coast through phase gaps vs still having power but no lights/HVAC. NJT is looking for new ones though so it shouldnt be an issue too much longer.

is this normal? I know when our trains here in Cleveland go thro breakers in the cat wires, the lights dim a bit and the HVAC units cut off then back on.

Is this where they change voltage from 11kv to 25kv?
