Land ownership in Vietnam is a social and an emotional issue, and it has traditionally discriminated against women. Two World Bank projects prepared the ground for a Land Law introduced in 2004 that mandates land certificates to include both the names of husband and wife in a household. As a consequence, women can now claim rights in areas ranging from credit to inheritance to divorce, among others.
