My Rant from the Summit of Mt Elbert

On Sept 26, 2009 I climbed Mt Elbert via the Northeast Ridge. I only had 2 hours of sleep. I reached the summit at 4:30 pm. There were 50 mph winds along the ridges all day. I had the summit to myself!

Note: Mt Elbert is the highest peak in the North American Rockies at 14,443 ft. It is the 2nd highest mountain in the lower 48. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mount_Elbert

better start heading down if it is 430. was it dark when you got back, because that trailhead is easy to lose

@jon1151 Yeah it was dark the last 90 minutes. By that time I was below treeline where the trail was fairly obvious. Don't be afraid to hike in the dark, even though it can get scary when you here the bushes wrestling at night.

Hi,You sound very excited on the summit. Congrats.

What do you advise, I should do about climbing gears. I was planning on buying some good boots and other stuff. Also, how many paths are there to the top, was it hard following it?

@ponder2006 The hike is "easy" for a 14er in the summer. It was just cold that day. Check out Gerry Roach's 14er book.
