Ryan and Steven, and a Lurking Carl--The Best of Pals

Bridget is playing ball with Steven at the Cory Mansion when Ryan arrives. Ryan is very happy to see Steven, and notices that Steven is wearing Ryan's Cubs baseball cap. Bridget says Steven wears the cap all the time. Ryan asks Bridget if she's seen anyone suspicious hanging around. Bridget says no, and that only Rachel and Helen are home now, and Helen will be making something for Steven to eat soon. Ryan briefly explains about the gift and note Vicky got from Carl and that Vicky thinks the note was a veiled threat against Steven. Bridget says if Carl tries to come after Steven, Carl will have to contend with her. Ryan tells Bridget that he's not going to let Carl or anyone hurt her or Steven. He sends Bridget inside because he doesn't think it's safe for her and Steven to be outside any longer, and then he sits down with Steven for a little talk, telling him how much he's missed him, and that even though Ryan isn't going to go on living with Steven and his mother he still wants to spend lots of time with Steven, going for ice cream and playing ball and whatever Steven wants, because they're the best of pals. Ryan tells Steven he loves him, hugs him, and then takes him inside. After Ryan and Steven are inside, Carl emerges from the shadows and picks up Steven's ball, saying aloud, "The best of pals."
