This summer saw an unexpected visitor to the WSR. 71000 Duke of Gloucester which had spent some time at Bristol during routine work, ran light engine with support coach to the West Somerset Railway to spend a week for some running-in before going back onto the mainline.

July 23rd saw a beautifull spell of weather take shape, with that I decided to get the Duke running in superb weather conditions. It was also an opportunity to try out a couple of newer locations that havn't been done before and that it would be perfect for sun lighting.
Having not been impressed by the way some young filmakers have been capturing the WSR on film in recent times, this film will definitely make up the way in which the WSR should be seen artistically. Once again keeping in practice with widescreen 16.9

  • how can someone dislike this engine?? this engine has the power of speed thrash and passion....this loco is a legend a utter beast to all steam locos DOG will always be the thrashiest loco ever and a great whistle aswell... :)

  • @class43matty true the Duke is a mighty powerfull beast you got people who love it and loath it, I admire it in every way.

  • Lovely video Ryan and good to see the Duke in action again. So strange that after its mishap on the mainline nothing serious was found. The running in on the WSR benefits both the railway and the locos owners.

  • @acw71000 I know it is puzzling for many concerned although me and a few others have mentioned what it could be. The passenger numbers were up on that day with lots to see the Duke with the weather being a benefactor

  • merci pour cette superbe vidéo
