God of War 3
Chaos Mode
No Upgrade Run Plus (no upgrades to weapons or items, no upgrades to health bar, magic bar, or item bar)
Hades Cerberus Breeder
By MrEmpirical
I made this video to showcase the utility of the Claws of Hades (CoH) when tackling this fight during a NUR+. The CoH are great for the following reasons:
- They allow you to damage the HCB from long range. Square, square, triangle is the best combo, because it allows you to use the triangle ender quickly.
- They have a great dash, which is useful when you need to escape from the HCB or the Satyr.
- You can use the square, square, triangle combo to keep the Satyr at bay, which gives you the breathing room you need.
You face only one HCB during GoW3, and so I think of it as a boss. It is easily the hardest boss in the GoW series, if only because the grabbing mechanics are so terrible in GoW3. Kratos auto-targets the largest enemy in the area, which means it is simply impossible to grab a dog when the Satyr or the HCB is nearby, even if you're pushing the left stick in the direction of the dog. This means you need plenty of breathing room during this fight. You need to kick dogs, but it is only safe to grab them if there are no other enemies around.
Once you're done with the HCB fight, the rest of the NUR+ is a formality. In that sense, it's sort of like the Translator fight from GoW2.
The first phase of the fight is easy. I just kick dogs at the HCB, and use the CoH combo in between kicks.
The second phase is the make-or-break phase. I use the CoH combo to keep the enemies back, while kicking dogs and doing plenty of dashing and jet dashing to give myself room to work. The CoH really shine in this phase.
The third phase is easy if you saved all of your magic and Rage of Sparta. I activate Rage and target the weaker Satyr. Then I switch to the Nemesis Whips and use Nemesis Rage to finish him off. Now it's just a matter of jumping and flying around to provoke the Satyr into taunting. While he's taunting, I can safely use the Hermes Boots to launch him for an air grab. Once the final Satyr is dead, stay well away from the HCB. You don't want the HCB to charge at you while you're trying to grab a dog. So, just wait for the HCB to spit out a dog, then see what the HCB does next. If the HCB stays still, you're free to grab the dog. If the HCB charges at you, then you need to dash away from both the dog and the HCB. If the HCB uses his fireball attack, just dash towards him to avoid the fireballs, then dash back to reestablish a safe distance.
I apologize for the SD footage. I play GoW3 in HD, but I can only record in SD at the moment. And I have no idea why my DVD recorder decided to squash the widescreen footage into a 4:3 format (I even set the recorder to 'widescreen' mode :p). But at least all the footage is there.
Anyway, even though the footage could be better, the point is that the video still serves its purpose: it showcases my tactics for handling this fight under NUR+ conditions and it may convince you to use and to appreciate the CoH a little more.
No upgrade indeed.. But can't even fight head to head, can't chain combos in the heat of battle, do a single move again and again, not totally aggressive and defensive.. Result? A BIG FAIL in an attempt to impress... Decent challenge huh? a 10 yr old can do that too

@VERGILDEVILL LOL... no upgrade is the only way to get a decent challenge out of the GoW games.

Why don't you use the Gorgon Serpent and statue the satyrs? I found this the only applicable method of destroying the dog on Chaos Mode!

@EhtYlno Dude...for fuck's sake...this is a no upgrade run. Read the video description. You can't use the Gorgon Serpent unless you upgrade your Claws.
