This was Benchley's "talkie" debut (at the dawn of sound movies), originally released by Fox Movietone in March 1928. This print was preserved by Raymond Rohauer, whom some believe was a dedicated archivist who preserved motion pictures that would have otherwise vanished forever...while others thought he was the biggest movie "pirate" of all time.

This is a great routine! He was always superb, and it's wonderful we still have this short movie.

Huzzah for YouTube! I've wanted to see this sketch ever since I read it in high school 50 years ago. It was believed irretrievably lost. I used to get kicked out of the school library for laughing out loud at Benchley's books.

What is so funny is that I was listening to a broadcast that I recorded on my own tape recorder recently. Vinny referenced this skit., but the broadcast was recorded fifteen years ago! He has obviously referred to this skit on several occasions.

I believe that Vinny referenced this skit during one of his broadcasts. I am glad that he did because it enabled me and probably others to enjoy Mr. Benchley.

Why do you thank Vin Scully? When/Where did he ever reference this short skit?
