Сталинград. Stalingrad 1942-43.
A documentary about the battle of Stalingrad, die Schlacht um Stalingrad, directed by Leonid Varlamov, written by Vassily Grossman, narrated by Yuri Levitan. This is the definitive period documentary on the battle of Stalingrad released in 1943. Of course it represents only a Soviet perspective on the battle (but it does contain some captured German footage) but then the Nazis never got round to making their own version.
Фильм Леонида Варламова, текст Василия Гроссмана, читает Юрий Левитан!

@MrTennesseeVols How many russian troops were on other side of Volga, who saw them? How many german, romanian, italian, hungarian troops were holding positions on western side of Volga to stop any russian advance?

@ForeverKIS Bolsheviks didn't give crap, they were very careful with historical facts. You talk like Gobels and american propaganda. they say the same. Bolsheviks were more honest and careful with facts, they preferred truth.

Historic facts should be extracted carefully from the bulk of Bolshevik crap for the movie was made in the 40s.

The Germans should have retreated to a defensible position when overwhelming Soviet forces were seen on the other side of the Volga.
