The translator is intentionally distorting his words, mangling them as well to make him sound incoherent. When he has a GOOD translator, his oratory skills are superb (I think he's better than Obama at oratory).

@cierancieran The translator actually did a great job. I'm a Venezuelan, I study to be an interpreter, I speak both english and spanish and trust me, Chavez's oratory skills are anything but "superb"

what people should do is learn spanish and read the exact text (not the terrible translators the UN apperantly hire) of his speech at the UN in this week.
Although, to be fair, he made a mistake when he assumed Israel supported the coup in Honduras, i could see how he would make that mistake, but he should apoligize regardless.

There are more pressing things in peoples' lives than learning Spanish or any other secondary language of a particular country. The two top languages of business is English with the Mandarin Chinese moving up fast.
Translating language in a media setting is, often, not an easy task.
