What Spending Would You Cut?

Please fill out the from at http://1.usa.gov/rgJ3Ao with YOUR suggestions on how you think Congress should get our fiscal house in order. I've always felt that the best solutions come from Utah, and by submitting your ideas we can ensure that Utah's values are represented before the Committee.

In August, Congress created a special Deficit Reduction Committee -- or Super Committee -- to reduce our nation's over $14.5 trillion debt. This special committee -- comprised of 6 Republicans and 6 Democrats -- is tasked with finding over a trillion dollars in savings.

As the top Republican on the Senate Finance Committee -- which deals with all revenue matters -- I recently announced that I will be submitting recommendations to the Deficit Reduction Committee. But I need your help.

Due to the large number of responses we will receive, I unfortunately can only respond to submissions from Utah residents, though I appreciate all comments.

Reform Social Security - like European nations -- itr was pegged at a high level that cannot be maintained -- same with medicare. Many expensive military bases abroad are no longer necessary. How about you and your millionaire buddies pay your fair share. These so called job creators have had 10 years to create jobs and all thy do is lay people off to increase profits. Then they pay minimal taxes. Quit trying to have the middle and lower class pay for tax cuts for the rich. You only call it class warfare if the rich might have to pay. What about the class warfare against the middle class???

Decrease or eliminate the amount of money we send to countries who hate us or who are workiing against us. Why are we buying their favors when it obviously doesn't help the USA.

-Repeal Obamacare.

-Eliminate federal funding of the arts.

-Eliminate project-based section 8 housing programs (not tenant-based assistance)

Eliminate US Dept. of Education

Reform Social Security (raise eligibility age and initiate a means test)

Reform Medicare by reducing benefits and increasing deductibles.

Significantly curtail agricultural subsidies

To bring about tax reform fast, eliminate income tax withholding -- make everyone see the money come in, then cut the check to pay their own taxes.

Eliminate onerous regulations against small business.

Drastically reduce ALL elected official pay to a middle-class subsistence wage, including retirement pay. Let's get some statesmen (people) serving at all levels instead of career politicians, all due respect. You want unity with the American public? Then stop Congress from taking elitist pay.

Require co pay on all Medicare and Medicaid claims. That way people will think twice before seeing a doctor for trivial complaints. Even a modest amount would help cut abuse. Revise the Social Security program so that it becomes solvent. State control does not make sense. It is a bad idea not well thought out. Society is too mobile.

I have long since retired and I am a WW2 survivor. I have seen the waste that Medicare allows. Doctors and insurance companies control it and there is lots of overuse with practically no controls. Get this under control. There seems to be no limit to what is spent on stage four cancer patients when there is little hope for life. etc. Read on, most of the people are aware of good ways to save money. Congress should join the regular population and get rid of their special befefits ,
