Buddy (Kristy McNichol) has run away after overhearing Kate (Sada Thompson) admit she once considered aborting her. Their little reconciliation scene is one of the most touching moments in the series.

From the pilot episode of ABC's "Family".

  • Thanks for sharing your meaningful comment.

  • Sada Thompson has died at 83. (May 4, 2011).

Rest in peace Sada! We won't forget you.

  • there was 3 nancys on the show

  • @Hljakes There were 2 Nancys.

  • SONY GET OFF YOUR ASS!!! PLEASE RELEASE THE THE REST OF THE SEASONS THE QUALITY OF THE ACTING & WRITING IN THIS SHOW IS BREATH TAKING !!!! I didn't realize when I was a kid but, I sure do now. Its great to have my kids see something special like this show instead of the mindless and cookie cut corporate crap. I use you tube every night to relive in a better time which quality meant something. I love those memories, its time people to demand more for our money long live those days.

  • @JBills16 ...Yes Sony should get off their asses since the first release was FOUR freakin years ago. It may have to fall to some other company like "Shout!" to get the job done. Aren't they the ones that took over the releases of Mary Tyler Moore and Rhoda? How I WISH they would take over the releases of "Family".

Like you I treasure the memories of those faraway days.

  • She has a few extra pounds on her, but now as a man I realize how beautiful Sada Thompson was in this show, how perfect she was in the role of the mom.

  • Families aren't really like this.

  • @castletriglav Let me weigh in... I was a child when this series aired, so I couldn't appreciate it then. OTOH, my folks enjoyed it.

Now, for the few clips I have watched just now, I can understand why "Family" lasted so long... their stories related to all families.

And one last thing, the late and great Aaron Spelling put this series together. An alum of his(Peggy Lipton, "Mod Squad") said it best: "It was a series from which you could learn something." Amen, Peggy.

  • I remember this sentimental slop. What a depressing family. lmao

  • @paulbratter I agree. Even when I was little, Kate was one of my favorites on this show.

  • @JBills16 I feel ya. Sony is BAD for releasing shows that contain strong female characters and then only releasing ONE season or boxed set. They did this with Police Woman and Maude also. Thankfully Shout Factory got hold of Police Woman and season 2 will be released in the beginning of 2012. Maybe we can petition them to do the same for Family.

  • My older sister said she thought of me as "Buddy". I look like her, act like her and am the same age. I would watch the show and really identify with it.

  • I can't thank you enough for uploading this beautiful show, I have been hoping for 30 years that one day I would see it again. Thanks to you I found it on Amazon and have ordered the dvd's. You are brilliant.

  • i used to watch this show with my Mom! Sada Thompson was such an amazing, subtle yet powerful actress.

  • Can you post this whole episode??
