Melanie Drozdowski will never forget the day she took her teachers union out on strike. It was September 1988 when teachers shut down the Hanover schools in an attempt to get higher pay and more preparation time. For two weeks, the teachers defied a court order to return to work as parents scrambled to find someone to watch their children. Before Friday, when Quincy teachers began their strike, it was the last time South Shore teachers went on strike. "I feel for the Quincy teachers because I've been there," said Drozdowski, who was president of the union that year.
