this excerpt begins with end of recitative from scene one (Bidú Sayão as Susanna), then into scene two as Ezio Pinza sings "Se vuol ballare", then all the recitatives
and ends with scene 3 and Bartolo's aria "La vendetta".

audio from old cassette tape of a live Met broadcast (January 29, 1944) with pictures of Ezio Pinza, Irra Petina and Salvatore Baccaloni.

Irra Petina is Marcellina. This picture of her is by Carl Van Vecten, 1948.

Salvatore Baccaloni's Bartolo is wonderfully rounded in tone and character. Superb!

Conducted by Bruno Walter.

  • Meraviglioso!!!

  • I love this. but why the pianoforte?

  • I've always loved Pinza singing Se vuol ballare, IMO it's the best version I've heard, and I've heard many of them. Bravo, Ezio!

  • Absolutely Great Performers!

  • Nice!

  • Wonderful singing. Listen and learn! Pinza is an intelligent singer too. Big tones in the middle range with large vocals with "o" and "a" cost almost nothing. High tones light and well placed..not too much volume. Economize and do not lose all the glory of the voice with one big high tone. A lesson for all cantantes who want to keep their low tones intact.Glorious singing and glorious music.

  • Wonderful! Bravo!

  • wonderful performance

    5*****

    thanks for posting this treasure!

  • splendid, bravo bravissimo

  • Great! I was awed by Ezio Pinza and

    Salvatore Baccaloni, both great bassos.
