Yesterday I had the wonderful privilege of playing with this wonderful boy for almost an hour. The video contains all the video my mom took and some of the photos she took for me too.

My mom and I arrived at opening time and made our way back to Friendship Cove. We walked around above ground and Ike was getting a big rubdown from one of his trainers. After that we went down to the underwater viewing area where I got out my toys and attempted to play with Ike. At first he was preoccupied, Kiska was locked away in the medical tank and he wanted to see her. Eventually he swam around and noticed me throwing my toys around and he came down! The rest is in this video. :)

One of the best parts that is not very visible in this video is at 1:46 when I held out my hand to Ike's pectoral flipper and he handed it to me! It was really touching. Of course, playing hide and seek with him was the most fun part, I had never seen an orca do that before!

Marineland, Niagara Falls, Canada.

  • This is sooo amazing! I wish I could have the oppertunity to do this! Can I respectfully point out that this orca is a female though, at least thats what i believe based off the dorsal fin.

  • @Sakima636 It was wonderful, I really hope you get to!

No no, this boy is DEFINITELY a boy if you catch my drift. Haha. xD He does have a 'girly' dorsal fin, but he's only almost 8 years old.

  • It's amazing to me that a whale would interact with people like this. I mean...they're incredibly intelligent, true, but he was playing with you more than the other people in there. How often do you see these whales and interact with them?

  • @RestillHabb He enjoys playing with people, he really likes making faces at children. :D They are very intelligent animals! I feel so lucky that he finds me interesting enough to hand around. ;)

Well last year I saw them 6 times between May and October, I wish I lived closer so I could be there more often.
