WNBC-TV 4 sign off Monday morning, June 23, 1986. Received from Philadelphia. Recorded VHS EP-speed. Due to file size restrictions, I have a separate video available with pre-sign off news programming.

  • ohh such precious memories of analog tv. they shuld have kept analog along with digital.

  • @palmbch561, you are so right. Analog signals have different characteristics and you can maintain a signal, albeit fuzzy at times, while driving and in fringe areas. Not digital.

  • Analog ... how i miss it!

  • No because in KNBC Los Angeles is with America the Beautiful

  • If the sing off is from June 23 1982 it has to be during 1986 FIFA World Cup in Mexico

  • Did all NBC affiliates sign off with the national anthem? Signing off, as well as the color bars and the phrase "This concludes our broadcast day" seem to be a bit of "a sign of the times". Stations usually don't "sign off" anymore, but go to either syndicated programming, network overnight, or paid programming.

    En-Bee-Cee!

  • @gtc1961 Agreed, but many of these old school sign offs were at 2 am in the morning,,but you could still break out the 8 mm films!!

  • @prausch65 Yes and no...I think people today are much more reliant and addicted to TV. When I grew up in the late 60's and 70's there was no cable, video games, computers or VCRs and only about 10 TV channels. You had only those to entertain you, if we didn't like what was on, we actually went outside and played. Spent a lot of time w/our friends. We had 8mm home movies we watched over and over (silent) or rented them from the library. Life was a lot more simple and enjoyable.

  • God, I miss these days. You would fall asleep in the living room with the TV on, but once the National Anthem started, you instinctivly woke up, turned off the TV, and went to bed. Classic.
