Myosin molecules move about actin filaments and cause cells to move using a "power stroke" (aka the "lever-arm swing") motion reminiscent of a caterpillar walking along a twig. The additive effect of countless myosin molecules pulling on actin filaments ultimately causes our muscles to contract.
The physics of this interaction has previously been limited to speculation based on protein signatures, hypothetical models, and static images of the proteins. This amazing video marks the very first moving image of these microscopic cellular events.
