@esgatch Agreed, which is exactly why we carry boutique brands :) There are some vintage martins that are extremely sweet-- but obviously quality suffers when they grow into an enormous corporation who's goal is to make as many guitars as they can as cheaply and quickly as possible.

@esgatch I totally agree with you

@soundpurestudios Martins didn't even have truss-rods 'til the early 1980's. They are notorious for resets and action problems. (I better hush.. :)
-
@soundpurestudios IMHO, Martin cannot compete with the boutique industry. (But, there are some nice vintage Martin OM's around)
-
@esgatch It is becoming extremely scarce, as it has been protected as an endangered species for quite some time. You can order brazilian on a martin but they charge a lot for what they have compared to a lot of smaller buiders.

@soundpurestudios I had heard there was a shortage of Brazillian Rosewood. I wonder if Martin still makes their own version. The Macassar Rosewood would probably we fine enough for me. :)

@esgatch We absolutely can facilitate customer orders (as well as factory visits!) That being said, when there are only two Brazililan versions available in the world (and with ours being, in our opinioin, by far the best specimen), some people don't want to take the chance that another may not be available, or might take far longer than anticiapted. While a new, custom instrument can turn out great, this masterpiece is a known entity. Sometimes, buying the "here and now" is the best bet.

@fedec16 I understand Brazilian Rosewood is considered a premium hardwood. But, if i were going to spend $14 grand on a guitar, I would have it made to my specs. I'd like to visit the McPherson factory one day. :)
I am planning to get myself this guitar, just with Madagascar Rosewood instead of Brazillian.
So 4.5 XP Hybrid flamed redwood, madagascar rosewood.
How much difference would there be between the two?

@Querster A good piece of Madagascar rosewood is highly comparable to Brazilian. There are subtle tonal differences, but descriptions of the differences tend to be very subjective. Also, the 'legendary" Brazilian guitars have usually had a lot more time to open up. Call or e-mail if you have any more questions. Thanks for your interest!
