  • "...and our role is not actually to own much of anything" Best response!

  • But to me, being a good Steward does not mean Tithing. It means realizing that my stuff is NOT mine, that God owns everything anyway.

That helps me live the words of Jesus in:

    Matthew 5:40-42.

If someone wants to sue you and take your tunic, let him have your cloak as well. If someone forces you to go one mile, go with him two miles. Give to the one who asks you, and do not turn away from the one who wants to borrow from you.

This is hard for me, but I pray that God makes more more like Him.

  • 2 Corinthians 9:7

Each man should give what he has decided in his heart to give, not reluctantly or under compulsion, for God loves a cheerful giver.

    1 Timothy 5:8

If anyone does not provide for his relatives, and especially for his immediate family, he has denied the faith and is worse than an unbeliever.

    Matthew 6:2

When you give to the needy, do not announce it with trumpets, as the hypocrites do to be honored by men. I tell you the truth, they have received their reward in full.
