CB Radio Channel 6 Band Opening Dec 15 2008 Skipland

The CB band (11 meters) was open this evening just after a big rain storm, first time in a few weeks (band has been dead due to low sunspots) and got stronger around 9PM EST... which was nice to see. CB Channel 6 is where people run large amounts of illegal transmitter power from the south. It seemed Ontario was open to Georgia for DX since I heard lots of Georgia stations coming through. Channel 6 is nicknamed the "Superbowl" channel. I heard many stations on the other channels including Lower sideband 27.555 too.

yes, i agree... more watts than brains as someone else said. I never try and DX on 6 I usually listen on it to know when the conditions are rolling.

It's amazing the power those guys get. I hear this same same guy in NY, and once drove up to canada and he was still coming through up there.

@Dummerd Some do yes mostly guys with 4 pills or so- but the guys I know are all running 16 pills and up- they all pretty much use either RG-213 or LMR- 400 if not they run RG- 217 such as I do. The guys that are runnin HUGE A/C boxes are all using heliax like you do.
