This is a little footage of Margot Fonteyn and Robert Helpmann in Act 1 of 'Giselle' in 1937 at the Vic-Wells Ballet, later the Sadlers Wells Ballet (1939, and finally the Royal Ballet (1956).

First there Fonteyn dancing a solo and then there is a pas de deux with Helpmann.

Music has been added to this silent film. The tempi of the music and the dance speeds unnaturally up in the pas de deux.

  • hi pediatrapaola - i think the pianist who added the accompniment to the filent film sounds a bit crazy when the speed of the film is not natural - merry melodies indeed!
