  • Nice texture maps.

  • There are games that make you buy a system, for example:

    Mario kart: N64

    Super Mario 3 : NES

    Metroid: SNES

    Silpheed:SEGA CD

    Metal Gear Solid: PSX

    Shadow of Colossus: PS2

    Gear of War: Xbox

    What a games.

  • the backgrounds are all FMV, the "main game" is flat 3D with no textures, with a very low polycount (Which the 68000 could do it easity even without the help of the Sega-CD extra power). The explosions are normal sprites.

They really fooled everyone back at time, people believed this was all running at real time.. even more as you could "interact" with the background (Actually crash in stuff - invisible sprites syncronized with the background). They did a very smart job.

  • I remember the hype this SCD game got back in the 90s!

  • Vohaul crossed with the Baron Harkkonen. That's what he looks like. XD Oh, and this music is great!

  • This takes me back! In the story prologue in the manual, "Lacarte" is referred to as "The Accolite" (unless I misread something). He reminds me of Vohaul from Space Quest 2.

  • I would buy a Sega CD just for this game.

  • I want to cry because this game bring back so many awesome gaming memories

  • @Corad4 here's more info: en(dot)wikipedia(dot)org/wiki/Silpheed#Mega-CD_version

What they basically did is render the video at 16 color, 15FPS with no dithering using very basic flatshaded 3D models. Game Arts is hardcore!

  • @Corad4 Yes, they systematically designed the FMV to looks like a 3D game from the time, and they did a hella nice job. LOVE THIS GAME! :3
