Coastal Rising - a media intervention that highlights the successful collaboration between communities, NGOs, International donors and local government authorities in Tsunami-affected communities. Consisting of a series of TV and radio programmes and newspaper supplements, Coastal Rising was developed by USAID/OTI Sri Lanka and Young Asia Television, with the participation of the people of the districts of Batticaloa, Amapara, Trincomalee, Hambantota, Matara and Galle. Stories were identified through a process of community consultation and feedback.
Coastal Rising is an attempt at creating a common space in the media for people's voices, -in an environment of censorship and insecurity- to remind Sri Lankans that positive relationships and collaboration can triumph over seemingly insurmountable challenges.
