The operational art (OPART) of the 3rd Infantry Division (Mechanized) to employ a feint towards Al Hillah to keep the enemy guessing as to which pincer was the main effort (the flying column headed towards the Karballah Gap?) is similar to the TTP Union Army General Sherman did to defeat the Confederates in 1864-1865 by placing the Iraqi Army on the horns of a dilemma. Compare this to the clusterfuck of USMC wheeled trucks and bloated amtracks getting stuck in the mud and having their asses kicked by mere Fedayeen rear guards hundreds of miles to the south.

The USMC talks a good game about maneuver warfare but isnt willing to do the hard work of mechanizing themselves properly thats required to be a modern-day German style blitzkrieg force like the 3rd ID (M); so they were only barely able to make it to Baghdad--6 days late--and placed the entire invasion in jeopardy by their criminal incompetence.

Most of the 3rd ID (M) was in M113 Gavin light tracks; but notice how when Iraqi sniper, artillery and mortar fire was received, 101st Air Assault light infantry riding on the backs of heavy tanks suffer casualties needlessly

when they should have their own High Technology M113 Gavins to be full maneuver players in either closed or open terrains:

Here's an U.S. Army Command & General Staff College School of Advanced Military Studies (SAMS) report by Infantry officer, Major William Sutey on the need for cross-country MOBILITY (XCM) from M113 Gavin light tracked tanks to improve LIGHT INFANTRY FORCE mobility, protection and firepower. READ IT.

3rd ID (M) MOS 19D scouts in flimsy Humvee wheeled trucks are quickly knocked out even when they are placed in the REAR--tacit admission that they cannot do their job as cavalry. ALL U.S. Army scout formations should be equipped with HT M113 Gavin light tanks—a lesson we knew from Iraq War 1 that wheeled Humvee truck scouts cannot safely make first contact with the enemy and survive.

This reality is no different than the M3 White scout cars being incinerated by the Germans in North Africa in 1943. Fools in the Army still persist with the delusion of wheeled, motorized scouts fantasizing that bloated LAV-III/Stryker trucks will somehow not constantly be stuck and restricted to roads/trails, when their dismal troop casualty rates even doing mild peacekeeping in Iraq reinforces the fact that theyd never have made it to Baghdad if the fools were not over-ruled by wiser heads at CENTCOM which used all-tracked combat units.

Also note the absurd DARK GREEN Army AH-64 Apaches getting easily targeted over TAN Iraq in the BLUE daylight sky; even hit by unguided, air-burst RPGs

This is yet more proof that AH-64s need to be painted in SKY GRAY CAMOUFLAGE and be made to fly much faster (250+ mph) than the current plodding 150 mph by making them into SpeedApaches using Piasecki Ring-tails and wings to get AH-56 Cheyenne-like speeds

  • @thehotshirtguy2008 Yea... usually on our damn feet. Nothing light about light infantry.

  • @SpaceMonkey1983 If Infantry doesn't have vehicles ( Light, Airborne, Air Assault) they ride on whatever is available. It sucks but it's what we do.

  • go army

  • I thought tank desant was obsolete. What was up with the exposed 101st infantry?
