Behind the scenes look at Sam Harris doing a song and dance rehearsal for his staring role in the musical, PIPPIN.

Pippin is a musical with music and lyrics by Stephen Schwartz and a book by Roger O. Hirson. Bob Fosse also contributed to the libretto. The show was based on the life of Pippin the Hunchback, the son of Charlemagne. The show was partially financed by Motown Records.

The show premiered on Broadway at the Imperial Theater on October 23, 1972 and ran for 1,944 performances before closing on June 12, 1977. It was directed and choreographed by Bob Fosse. As of April 2009, Pippin is the 29th longest-running Broadway show.

Set in the dazzling court of the 8th Century Holy Roman Emperor, Pippin is the story of Prince Pippin's quest to find personal significance. The Leading Player who is blessed with the gift of magic narrates the story. Pippin traverses through the trials of war, love, and politics before finding himself out amongst the peasants - away from the wealth and privilege of royal life. He ends up falling in love with a good widow, Catherine. In the end, the Leading Player tries to convince Pippin to just commit suicide. Pippin resists and decides to spend the rest of his life with Catherine and her young son.

  • OMG awesome.. better than we did.. hats off!!!

  • @TheDancinfan There are hints of Fosse in the choreography such as the hat flipping and his signiture 'fosse walks' through out the entire dance.

  • This is not Fosse's choreography. The choreographer is Dan Mojica, who is the third dancer in the trio section.

  • im diggin' the fosse choreography. i'm thrilled to see this because most productions do not actually keep the choreography~~our highschool was fortunate enough to have a good theater budget, we hired a choreographer to do the fosse dances and teach them to our cast...they also hired a magician to do a magic trick for the beginning act...it was truly a breath-taking performance!!

  • nah...it's true....with licensing contracts for shows that fosse directed...it's usually a stipulation that you use his choreography...but how often they do that is a whole other thing.

  • whats the song?

  • @Whalephants Actually it's Stephen Schwartz work and it is not required. Partially because he did not care for Fosse's original staging.

  • Really Cool- Thanks, ALL!

  • very very good!! \o/

  • FYI any and all Fosse works must use his orginal choreography per contractual agreement. This is Fosse's work! It has simply been restaged most likely by a former dance captain that toured the orginal production.,
