My grandfather told me stories of seeing Caruso in Philadelphia. Not on stage, however. He would come out the back of the theater after a performance and sing the entire performance again. He would sing for people who could not afford to go inside. Truly the "people's tenor and why he was "GREAT".

Try singing this in the same key as him. Then you will respect him and other tenors who sing this even more.

The great more lyrical version from 1906. The second Caruso recording from 1917 is also great, but more spinto, less lyrical.

It's amazing how similar Caruso and Bjorling sound so very much alike although Caruso had a much bigger voice but the quality is frightening alike. Don't put down Lanza on this one he made everything he sang come to life. If you notice Caruso didn't take the proper vowel on the High B Flat he went to an ah instead of the si. Caruso always struggled with High notes Not so with Lanza or Bjorling.

Hello. I am who uploaded Mario Lanza Mapari. No doubt, Caruso was much better than Lanza, thoug it do no implies Lanza was bad. Lanza good. Caruso excelent.jfsanin
