A Mother's Prayer by Peggy Mann When a son or daughter goes off to war something happens inside a parent. You swell with pride, you panic with fear, you throw your trust to God and country and hope and pray for the best. It is exhilarating and debilitating—very hard to explain. Peggy Mann, an accomplished singer/songwriter, captures the emotions of the entire journey of a young patriot and his mother's prayer that he does what is right and that God keeps him safe. Peggy takes the listener through years and years of a mother's teaching and praying. Perhaps sending children off to war is not more gut- wrenching for mothers than fathers, but mothers, generally speaking, are more emotional. Mothers have prayed this prayer for generations and Peggy Mann brings it home with this song, through a mother whose child has served twice in Iraq and now heads off to support the effort in Afghanistan.
