With the majestic Town Hall building as a backdrop, thousands of Penangites and tourists had a wonderful time at the Bon Odori festival held at the Esplanade, Penang. It is a traditional Japanese festival to honour ancestors with songs and dance. With Rasa Sayang playing in the air, kimono clad women and children danced along with the local Penangites.

What makes the Bon Odori festival unique is the participation of students of two schools from Kedah and Perlis who took part in the Japanese dance performance. The Malay students can speak Japanese! And their sensei or teacher is an Indian. CJ Chan Lilian feels that this epitomize the one human race that CM Lim Guan Eng hope for in his opening speech.
