They are sealing up abandoned mines in southern California, too. Such a shame to destroy these sites of historical importance. Can't that money be better spent on other things like crumbling highways, bridge repairs, freeway widening, more prisons, better schools, etc?
-
that is the logical thing to do is to spend the money on schools & roads or other things , but the goverment is not logical lol

You all probably just got exposed to radon in your lungs. Almost a sure thing. Don't worry about it now. Lung cancer will set in later.

@emike09fcmc I hope they are correct, but I am glad to hear that you are checking things out first. Truely, it sounds like fun to explore, but I would personally being a Geiger counter and scintillation counter... just in case.
Also, what if you set on a rock for a break and it just happened to be a betafite rock? Ouch.
Still, fun stuff. Cheers!

Be careful in abandoned uranium mines. They can contain extreem levels of radon gas. Your clothing can also become contaminated.

@antiprotons
According to the State DOGM radiology specialist, the radiation and radon levels in any of these mines never exceeded MSHA regulations.
