Mojave Underground Inc. visits abandoned mines in the San Rafael Swell area. The Blue Ribbon Mines are home to a very unique ore bin. The Copper Globe is still in amazing condition, and over 100 years old, The Lucky Strike and Dirty Devil Mines are Uranium mines, and quite extensive. All of these mines are set to be closed forever, never to be seen again, by the State of Utah's Division of Oil, Gas, and Mining (DOGM). Mojave Underground visited these mines in an effort to document and preserve them.

  • Be careful in abandoned uranium mines. They can contain extreem levels of radon gas. Your clothing can also become contaminated.

  • @antiprotons

According to the State DOGM radiology specialist, the radiation and radon levels in any of these mines never exceeded MSHA regulations.

  • They are sealing up abandoned mines in southern California, too. Such a shame to destroy these sites of historical importance. Can't that money be better spent on other things like crumbling highways, bridge repairs, freeway widening, more prisons, better schools, etc?

  • that is the logical thing to do is to spend the money on schools & roads or other things , but the goverment is not logical lol

  • @emike09fcmc I agree with antiprotons.. Because that was when they where in buissiness so they had air vents these days they might be.. Radon is not a joke sir be careful next time.

  • You all probably just got exposed to radon in your lungs. Almost a sure thing. Don't worry about it now. Lung cancer will set in later.

  • @emike09fcmc I hope they are correct, but I am glad to hear that you are checking things out first. Truely, it sounds like fun to explore, but I would personally being a Geiger counter and scintillation counter... just in case.

Also, what if you set on a rock for a break and it just happened to be a betafite rock? Ouch.

    Still, fun stuff. Cheers!

  • @fhood Instead of filling them up, just put an iron gate around them to stop idiotic kids from messing around in them.

  • i believe there is something going on called a totally manipulated global economy.

  • zomfg i thought this was fallout new vegas
