Our cockatoo was screaming and expected us to bring her a nice salad with an expensive dressing. (She doesn't like cheap dressings) Instead we came in with the camera and she wasn't amused. If she wants something that she doesn't get, she starts "hissing" as we name it. This video gives an example of how that sounds. (As soon as the camera was shut off the hissing changed into screaming again)

  • Ohh Sulphur Crested...I didn't know there was a Medium! I only knew of Greater and Lesser! That's great, how is his temperament? Is he snippy to everyone but you, or pretty gentle?

By stomping feet, I mean Ms. Piggy stomps her feet when she gets all wound up and doesn't get whatever it is that she wants. Just like a two year old kid.

  • That looks and sounds just like my MSC2 Yondo... just in other feathers. I bet she doesn't like the camera, Yondo sounds exactly like that when he is frightened by something. Anyway, beautiful bird!

  • Thanks Skywalker,

She is a beautiful and sweet bird, although my husband has filmed her freaking out at the camera. She doesn't like being closely examined and has no idea WHY he isn't petting or feeding her instead of just standing there. What, if I may ask, is an MSC2? I'm guess it's another type of cockatoo? Similar size? Makes asthma noises when annoyed? Does Yondo stomp her feet too??

  • I've had a Moluccan for 25+ years, who is very tame. BUT, if he feels threatened at all, the hissing is his expression of "back off", I'm not feeling comfortable with "this situation at the moment." Also, he has this "noisy period", right before bedtime, where he will scream for a couple minutes. It's a natural behavior as in the wild this how they call the "flock" in to roost for the night. When my wife asks "why's he screaming again?", the stock answer is "Because he's happy to be alive!" :-)

  • on very beautiful MOLUCCAN Cockatoo. we have a female Peaches who is a rescue bird. this one wants some TREATS I think. only imho that is. FT 5/5

  • Is she wheezing when she breathes in?

    Beautiful bird!

  • MSC2 is for Medium Sulphur Crested Cockatoo, Cacatua Galerita Eleonora. My Yondo (male) though, seems to be a hybrid of an Eleanora and a Triton. They are a bit smaller than the Moluccans. Yes, he sounds exactly like that sometimes. But I don't really get what you mean with "stomp her feet".
