Nadya and Vanya - 2-week old tiger cubs

Meet Nadya and Vanya, 2-week old Siberian tiger cubs from Jungle Cat World in Orono, Ontario.

I had the honor of naming these two gorgeous tigers. They are the daughters of a good friend of mine, who happens to be one of the nicest, most beautiful tigers in the world: Kumara.

Nadya gets featured a bit more than Vanya in this one since she is the one that is staying at the zoo. Vanya is currently being taken care of in Seagrave, Ontario at Northwood Zoo.

You'll hear Nadya look up at her sister and make a sneezing-type of noise. This is called prusten or 'chuffing' and is a noise that tigers make to communicate friendliness or good intentions. If you hear a tiger chuff at you, you should feel honored.

Seeing these beautiful animals in person is amazing, but be advised that though these animals are cute, they grow up. Some people make the mistake of thinking these animals are pets, but don't know they require a large habitat and thousands of dollars a year to take care of. If you want to have an encounter with a tiger cub, become a volunteer at a zoo...they usually need help.

Nadya. Wonder how they came up that name?

Nadya is short for Nadezhda which means Hope

So that's what that noise is called! "Chuffing" sounds like a kind of kissy noise my domestic cat makes. Can domestics "chuff" too?

Nope...if you hear a cat make that noise, it's probably sneezing.

Tigers are some of the most special animals in the world.They seem so scary,but once you get close to them,and they treat you like you were one of them, they could transform into such cute kitties. I love these types of big cats: tigers,lions,leopards,panters.­..such adorable!

aww i love nadya she was my fave animal at zoo camp last year even though she was 15 months she stil had her baby face. i really wish i could go see her and Meesha the 2 month baby tiger as a 15 month and nadyas size last year, wow i really do miss them... :(
